I got an email a few weeks back from my beautiful Goddaughter, Kayla. She and her husband, Ian, are expecting their first baby this summer. Of course, like all new “parents to be”, they are very excited! They finally came up with a “theme”, I guess you could say, for little Emmett’s room…Starry Night! Ian really wanted a mural of this on one of the walls in the baby’s nursery. Soooo, Kayla asked me if I could paint that for her….ummm…yes?? I really wanted to do something special for them, but, could I really paint that? And on such a large scale? Well, I figured, I can at least try…and worst case scenario….we’d just repaint the wall a solid color and start over….Yesterday was the big day…I went over with my trusty overhead projector, my paints, brushes, and a can of Pringles…(my favorite snack while painting) It was fun hanging out with Kayla all day, catching up on old times, talking about the baby shower…After approx 5 hours, I was done! Ian walked in and seemed to really love it, so I was very happy to hear that…It’s not perfect, by any means….duh, I’m NOT Vincent van Gogh….but, it looks very pretty… and once all the baby furniture is put back in, I think Emmett is going to have a very cool room!

About The Old Cypress House
I paint...I love to paint...I have always painted...I like to take something old and make it new again...with paint! The Old Cypress House got started with a single plank of cypress wood given to me by my brother. I painted Tiger Eyes on it (LSU Tiger Eyes, to be exact...Geaux Tigers!). From that moment on, I couldn't do enough of them. I ventured into Fleur de Lis, Jazz guys...whatever anyone suggested. Then my husband helped tear down a cypress house that was built in 1889 and brought me home loads and loads of more wood, including the old cypress windows that were in the house...I could hardly contain my excitement! The possibilities are endless. This blog is going to showcase my work. It will mostly be on cypress...but, I'm sure I'll venture into other areas of art projects. I have so many ideas spinning around in my head. I hope you enjoy my work. If you see something you like or have an idea, please let me know...I'll be in my shop!
